Item AT-AG
Approximately 1.25 X 1.25 inches
The mask of beaten gold found by Schliemann in the royal tombs
of Mycenae was thought to
be the mask of Agamemnon. The name persists, although it is
actually from an earlier time,
predating him by several hundred years. Some believe it to be
a forgery, partly because it
is the likeness of a man with facial hair (interestingly, in a
style which was popular in
Schliemann's time), while other masks of this period depict
clean-shaven Kings.
